When the new building is happening
All St Ann’s rooms have their own high-speed Internet connection and phone with voice-mail capabilities. Family and friends can call student rooms using a direct line. Internal phone calls are also available free of charge.
There are shared bathrooms on each corridor. However, rooms in the Dame Roma Mitchell building, the Barnes building and the Ann Wood Wing include ensuite bathrooms and all rooms have individual climate control. It is the College's vision to upgrade all rooms to the same standard as those in the above mentioned corridors.
All student rooms have storage space, a wardrobe and a desk large enough to fit a computer. Large pin boards are also provided to hang College notices or personal information.
Student rooms are cleaned weekly and rubbish taken out daily (excluding weekends) by our cleaning staff.
There is one main kitchen which provides three meals per day including the weekends when a continental breakfast is provided. Every Monday night all students are required to attend formal dinner by candlelight. Guest speakers occasionally attend this. Late and early meals are also provided for students who are unable to be present during meal times. All students are also permitted to use the milkshake maker, coffee machine and drink dispenser until 10:00pm each night.
Every corridor is also equipped with its own mini-kitchen which includes a fridge, sink, kettle and toaster. They are available 24 hours a day and anyone can store personal food supplies in them for late night snacks. Most also have cutlery and plates available.
There are 3 laundries within the College to which all students have immediate access. Each laundry has several washing machines, dryers, ironing boards and large sinks. The washing machines and dryers are coin operated. Indoor and outdoor clotheslines are also provided, however pegs and washing powder are not.
Secure car parking is available on the St Ann’s campus for approximately 40 students. If you need one of these parks you must request an application form. Allocation is first-come, first-served.
There are also several places where push bikes can be kept locked.
There is a rose garden that students are welcome to use for study and/or recreation. Social events are also organised from time to time for students and guests of the College.
The garden is maintained by a permanent half-time gardener instead of contracted out like many other places.
The College also provides food and drink vending machines as well as condom machines. There is also a photographic room and drafting equipment for architecture and engineering students.
Bring everything you need to make you comfortable while remembering that you live in your head, this isn’t a materialist culture, far from it. Joy comes from people, not things.
Or more explicitly...
All St Ann's rooms have a reverse cycle air conditioner. Each room has a desk with a lamp and ergonomic chair. All the desks are large enough to fit a computer.
A pin-up board is provided in your room. It may be useful to bring pins to hang your notices, calendars etc. Posters and pictures for the walls are also welcome provided that the adhesive on the back does not damage the wall as damage may incur a fee. Ornaments or objects to brighten your room are also a good idea. You must provide your own mattress cover, sheets, quilts and pillows, coat hangers and towels. You also need to supply your own washing powder and pegs for your laundry.
All general furniture is provided including curtains, bookcases, cupboards and several drawers. Every room is equipped with a lockable cupboard to store your valuables when you are away.
You may also like to bring your own small television however keep in mind that St Ann's has several TV rooms available 24 hours a day. You may also bring a stereo and alarm clock or any other small electrical device providing it doesn't consume great amounts of energy.
Unfortunately St Ann’s does not allow any animals to be kept on the premises so you will have to leave all pets at home.
